What’s really important for your wedding | Do’s and Don’ts for Wedding Planning

From a Fort Collins Wedding Photographer

Biggest Do and Don’ts when planning your wedding | from a photographer who has seen a lot of wedding chaos.

Planning your wedding doesn’t have to be so complicated, but the industry makes it chaos. We get an overload of information of “must haves” and “what not to forget” for your wedding day… but often forget about what really matters, which is the TWO OF YOU.

I have been capturing weddings for over a decade in Colorado and let me tell you the things that matter the most, have nothing to do with how much you spend on your wedding. Wedding planning is about planning YOUR wedding, and keeping in mind the things that matter the most to you, and how to make your day as magical as possible.

DO:

-invite the people that support you, that are actively involved in your life, that you have connections with.

-PUT YOUR VOWS ON SOMETHING CUTE– don’t print it on a giant piece of paper and don’t have them on your phone.

  • if you don’t like vows in front of everyone- have a private vow ceremony just the two of you!

-get darn yummy food…. don’t have the budget for a big caterer? Bring in a taco bar or bbq hot bar and do a buffet. People need to be fed, even if its just a few of you. Have snacks for your guests if there is a lull between ceremony and dinner. Warm food at weddings.

-hire a photographer to capture the day (even if its only the ceremony, family photos, and couples photos)– often they are the last nice photos we have of grandparents, parents and friends… capture them.

-make it special for the two of you… incorporate things that are meaningful. TAKE TIME FOR JUST THE TWO OF YOU– your day goes by soooo fast, cherish the moments you get together on your wedding day.

– download the QR code for guests to share their photos with you– its soo easy and a fun way to see all the fun you missed.

– save your flowers and dry them! the cutest way to decorate your house- make a floral casting- or dip in modge podge to make wall art.

– bring a small sewing kit (with safety pins too! ) and first aid kit! bonks and dress tares happen all the time

DONT:

-stress about little details– no one is going to remember what your napkins looked like or if they were from costco.

-leave everything on yourself to plan — delegate, especially day of.. you do not need to be organizing flowers and tables and chairs the day of– ask for help or hire a day of coordinator to ease the stress.

-go into debt over things that you don’t actually care about– prioritize the things that matter to the two of you.

-invite guests that you don’t actually like

– GET too intoxicated during the getting ready time. Save the party drinking until you are post ceremony.

-stress about table gifts– yes they are cute– but many get left at the end of the night.

— want more— just ask! comment your biggest do and don’ts!
